The Florida Teacher Certification Examinations or FTCE and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination may be taken as computer-based or paper-based tests. FTCE examination computer-based tests are offered at flexible times and locations throughout the year, and your reporting and dismissal times will depend on your scheduled appointment. FTCE examination paper-based tests are administered several times throughout the year.

 

Florida law requires that teachers demonstrate mastery of basic skills, professional knowledge, and content area of specialization. The FTCE are pass/fail tests. If you pass your test, you will see “PASS” on your score report. If you do not pass, you will see “NOT PASS” on your score report.

Description of the FTCE Tests

 

1.       The FTCE General Knowledge Test or GK is a test of basic skills and consists of four subsets: Essay, English Language Skills (ELS), Reading and Mathematics.

 

2.       The FTCE Professional Education Test or PEd is a test of pedagogy and professional practices and consists of multiple choice questions.

4.      The Florida Educational Leadership Examination or FELE is for the certification of administrators, such as school principals, and consists of three subtests: Instructional Leadership, Operational Leadership and School Leadership. Subtests 1 and 2 consist of only multiple-choice questions. Subtest 3 consists of multiple-choice questions and an essay. The subtests may be registered for separately and taken separately; subtests may be passed at separate administrations to achieve a passing score on the overall test.
